About time...A Scrapbook Layout!

So the entire reason I started collecting scrapbooking stuff was so I could well... scrapbook.  Guess what I NEVER do?  It's ridiculous really.  This weekend, I finally got one done! Only 6 billion to go! Wahoo!
So I made this double page layout for my son.  This was his first day at a new school that has been a major turning point for us.  So it was definitely worth scraping.  The nautical nods to page 2 go with the theme the teacher picked for her intro and I included the message from the bottle he received that day from his new teacher.  The circles on the side of the pictures have hidden journaling cards.

Here are some close ups:

The paper packs are from Close to my Heart.  Most is from the Scholastic paper pack that will still be available.  Some is from an older retired pack.  The embellishments on page 1:  The schoolhouse, flourishes and apple are from  The Title I made on my Silhouette using Design Studio. Page 2:  The frames and titles I did in Silhouette design studio.  The compass is from the silhouette store.

I feel like I am a little rusty on this scrapbook thing.  But I printed about 400 pictures form 2012 that are GOING to get done.  Hopefully.  It was a good plan, lets see how long it takes!

HIMCR Saturday Challenge; Valentines!

The design team this week had a new kind of digi file to work with, it was already colored!  As we already know coloring digi stamps isn't my strong suit! lol

Another Angry Birds Space File!

I had a little time tonight and managed another quicky SVG for your Angry Birds collection.    Checkout the first Angry Birds post for rules on getting SVG's and terms of use.  They're easy, I promise!

Angry Birds Space SVG Files

I had some fun this weekend making Angry Birds Space SVG files!  I fixed red bird and finally made him into an SVG rather than Silhouette file.  Then tonight, I made Ice Bomb Bird!  Isn't he cute?  I'm not sure which bird I will tackle next, but I plan to make them all in short order.  My son LOVES anything Angry Birds.  Anything.  If you can't beat them, join them! Right?
I am having lots of fun learning my new software and think that there will be plenty more SVG's where these came from of more than famous friends.

Now, I am happy to give my followers either ( or both) SVG files for free.  But there are a few rules...
1. Be a follower
2. Comment below and tell me how you follow and your email addy.
3. These files are for personal use only.  Don't put them on anything you are going to sell, ever!
4. Do not give away my files, they are my work not yours to give away.  Instead direct friends here.  They can get it from me free too.
5. If you use my files and post images anywhere on the internet, be sure to give me credit and link back to my site.

I can't wait to use these little guys for my son's scrap book!  I hope you enjoy them too!

NEW: Request to have the files shared!  Just Click these links and enter your email.  I can approve quicker on this system! Thanks.

HIMCR Challenge: Tags!

Hello Friends!  This week's Hiding in My Craft Room challenge is Tags!  I love cute tags, but rarely make them.  This was a great reminder of how fun they can be!

I got out my Cricut for this one.  Found a cute image on Wrap It Up cartridge and thought it might be fun!  I found the prefect sized stamp on my whoo's your valentine stamp set for the "gumballs".
The pink one is embossed, and I used a cute little chevron background stamp with white pigment ink on th yellow so they all had some different texture.
I hope you have been enjoying the stamps this morning and you are inspired to go join Hiding in my Craft Room's tag challenge this week!

Take me back to the Island...

We don't go on vacation often, but in 2011, we were lucky enough to spend a couple of glorious weeks on Kauai, up on the North side, where everything is green, lush and peaceful.  If you ever get the chance, stay up in Princeville, bring your kindle loaded with books and sunscreen and plan for some serious tropical relaxation.

So we are in the airport, waiting for our flight home.  We decided we needed some snacks.  I stopped at a little Starbucks shop and perused the pastries.  There was something I'd never seen before! Lemon-Ginger Muffins.  Well being a lemon lover, I HAD to try it.  I purchased my goods and shortly thereafter we boarded the plane. After a short while, I decided it was snack time, I got out that little lemon goodie, and tore off a bite. Oh My!  It was love at first bite. Lightly lemon flavored, small chunks of spicy ginger and slightly crunchtastic, buttery top...oh what a joy!   Now the voice in my head got panicked. "Why did I have to discover this on the way HOME???  Well, maybe it's a new summer flavor, and I just missed out because I hadn't been to the Bigbucks coffee places lately.  No need to panic, right?  I hope the hubs doesn't notice I am eating the whole thing, cause I don't want to share...I'm sure he can try one back at home..."

As it turned out, it was an island exclusive, or some such annoying they-don't-have-it-at-home problem.  The don't have it everywhere, WHAT WILL I DO???  It was then time to take matters into my own hands.  After many experiments, and taste testing, I have almost reproduced the taste of that wonderful vacation in a little wrapper of love.
So should you think this sounds yummy, and you want to give it a try yourself.  Here is my recipe:

Glazed Lemon Ginger Muffins

Crumble Topping
5 tbs of butter, cut in to small pieces, and cold
5 tbs of All purpose Flour
1/2 cup of sugar

Put the butter chunks in a wide bowl that will be easy to smush with the dry ingredients, pour the dry stuff in on top, and begin mixing with a fork or other reasonable kitchen implement to incorporate all of the powdery substances, with the buttery substance.  If you get impatient like I do sometimes and use your fingers, and warm up the butter, put it in the fridge or freezer while you do the next part. It needs to be cold for baking.

3 c All purpose flour  (this recipe can hold up to whole wheat flour too if you prefer)
1 tbs baking powder
1/2 tbs baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
10 tablespoons of butter, room temperature
1 c sugar
Zest from 2 large lemons or 3 small ones
6 tbs of ginger preserves ( I chopped the large pieces, so there weren't any giant pieces in the muffin)
2 eggs
1 tsp of vanilla
9 oz of lemon chiffon or regular lemon  1% yogurt

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.

Cream the butter, sugar and lemon zest in a large mixing bowl until fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, incorporating each fully before adding the next.  Next add vanilla and ginger preserves, incorporate fully.
Next add about one third of your dry ingredients and mix until no longer dry.  Then add half of the yogurt, mix until incorporated, next another third of the dry ingredients, and then the final yogurt followed by the rest of the dry ingredients.  Be sure to work quickly once you begin adding the dry ingredients, you do not want to over-mix and have tough muffins.

Scoop the batter into cupcake liners or a prepared muffin tin, filling each cup about 2/3 full.  *** I try to forget this next step almost every time! Don't do that!***  Next add the buttery, crumbly goodness topping to each muffin.  You''ll thank me later, I promise.

Bake on the center rack at 375 degrees for 20-23 minutes, or until a toothpick can be inserted and removed clean.

While you are waiting for these little goodies to cook, you should make the glaze topping (yes, another topping, it's worth it I swear!)

Glaze Topping
1 c powdered sugar
2 tbs lemon juice

Combine until sugar dissolves, and set aside.

As soon as your lovely muffins leave their hot box home, you should apply this glaze to each one lovingly.  The hot muffins will absorb some of the glaze and some will sit happily on top waiting for your enjoyment.  After the muffins have cooled, you can always add more glaze if you want to!  :)
You should get about 16-18 muffins from this recipe.

I have tried this recipe with candied ginger as well, the problem with candied ginger is it's impossible to get into palatable pieces.  My discovery of ginger preserves saved me from candied ginger frustration, and incorporates a hint of that spicy bite throughout the muffins perfectly!  I did however note that the brand I have had large ginger chunks that still needed some chopping to create a happy muffin, but that's up to you!

I better go get one before they are all gone!  They are a favorite here in the house.  I hope they become a favorite for you too!

Hello Friends!  I have had a little time to craft, but I can't seem to finish anything to my satisfaction.  I thought I would share what I have so far anyhow... :)

This is a file form  it's from the Poplar Street Tulips kit.  I was pleasantly surprised at how large this kit made the egg!  This is a fabulous gift package for spring time or Easter gifts.  I used some new pretty spring time paper I found at JoAnn's on sale... Although my lighting doesn't do it justice in this picture! I have GOT to set up a late night picture taking area.  But we don't really have room.  So I just tend to grab whatever and try to make it work...  Anywhoo, I tried some ribbon at first and HATED it.  Clearly I don;t have the right ribbon on hand.  So I tried the next best thing: ruffled paper!  What do you think?

This M&M's package gives you an idea of the size when cut on a 12 x 12 mat!  Wow!

I still think it needs a bow, or sparkles, or something... But I can't quite put my finger on it!!!  Any ideas crafty-bloggy-friends?  I bet you know EXACTLY what it needs.  Do share!

So here is another not quite finished project....  I made these mailboxes from too.  They are adorable, a good size and pretty sturdy!  My son stole the blue one right away.  I still haven't added any embellishments to the pink one.

He added his own....

Who knew that all the mail box needed was some eyes?  LOL.

I think I have some ideas for the pink box.  If they turn out I will share next week. :)

I hope you have a fun & crafty weekend!

Oh and my order from the new Close to my Heart Spring catalog will be here today!  Yipee!  I can start sharing some new projects with you from the new catalog!  Hooray!

Time is running out!

You may not be aware, but I am a Close to my Heart Independent Consultant.  A little over a year ago I discovered their products and fell in LOVE.  I would love to share them with you too!  I am only a little way from my goal and with these great special offers, now is a fabulous time to stock up on Close to my Heart!

Whoo's Your Valentine Kit offer is ending Jan 31st.   This super cute kit and absolutely adorable stamp set!  The kit is only $10 with a small $35 purchase.  But hurry!  This kit is gone Jan 31st forever!

The January stamp of the month is also only available through January 31st.  Spend $50 in product and your get this stamp set for only $5!  And yes, a $50 order gets the $5 stamp of the month AND Whoo's your Valentine for $10!  Wahoo!!!!

The Fall/Winter Idea Book products are running low and ending soon too!  Jan 31st is the last day to place orders.  Don't delay, once these products are gone, they are GONE.  It took me awhile to grasp how dedicated they are to their deadlines, so sitting on the fence doesn;t work for too long! LOL Learned THAT lesson the hard way!
THE new Spring/Summer Idea book will be ready for orders February 1 and you are gonna LOVE it too!

Did I go too far?

In between random and tedious chores, I took a few minutes to play with some vinyl.  For whatever reason I have felt the need to name my BBF's Cameo and Cricut.  We have so much fun together, it only seems right. Right?  Is that weird? Did I go too far?  Or am I simply a big nerd and owning it?  You decide. :)
Well, I finally got it done this weekend.  I mean in my head they have had names for awhile, but they needed to be adorned with them... So I introduce to you:
This is how Amelia pretty much always looks, with her partner in crime Gypsy attached, charging and ready to go on a moments notice...
Miss Molly was lucky enough to get a name badge AND a pretty paper embellishment for her control panel.  Somehow I missed for a LONG time that the Silhouette comes with a control panel shape for a long while now.  I picked up a pretty springtime paper pack this weekend (cause you KNOW I needed more paper) and loved the colors on this striped one!
I used some of my Cricut vinyl stash and cut it on my Silhouette with a computer font I liked.  I am finding myself slightly addicted to making labels for things out of vinyl.  I might possibly search for new things to label soon...

That's all for the time being.  I have more fun projects coming, they just need to be finished up!
Now you know just HOW big of a nerd I am!  The Mr. and the kidlets think I am weird.

HIMCR Super Scraps Saturday

It's time for a new challenge!  Hiding in my Craft Room is back to Super Scraps Saturday!
Here is this week's design team contribution.  I love finding little scraps of coordinating papers and putting them to good use.  Because I don't know about you, but I tend to save EVERY stupid scrap that *might* be useful in the future.  It's a problem.  I am up to two very full 12 x 12 boxes of scraps.  We might need every Saturday to be Super Scraps!

I hope you are thinking about what you can do with some scraps now so you don't have a scrap collection like mine....  Go Check out the other's gals inspirations over at Hiding in my Craft Room too!

Quality Time

Baby girl and I stole a few minutes of time to hang out this week.  We decided to make a couple of quick cards.

She picked out the paper and we went to work.
Pink. Simple.  Pretty.
I love creating with her.  It always makes me happy.

I hope that you are having a great week and you get a little quiet, happy, creative time too!

Something fun to Share!

This gals site is just too cute NOT to share!

If you check out My Cartridges tab you'll realize I have a serious die cut problem love.  I recently discovered this gals absolute absolute gem of a site!  Even better?  She give away an image EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I have no idea how long that will last, but you will want to get in on her freebies AND her adorable SUPER CHEAP images as well.  The images aren't just for your die cutter either, she gives you a digital image to use in digital scrap booking too!  What an amazing value!

I hope she decides to invite a design team to help pimp her stuff (wink, wink)!

HIMCR Challenge Black and White plus One

This week's Hiding in my Craft Room's challenge is a  super fun one this week.  It's the first Saturday so it's a color challenge.  Black and White plus one.  So add in any other color you like!  To me this makes for a really elegant and lovely project, no matter what plus one color you choose!  Here is my project for this week:

I have been really into damask lately.  So I was excited to use my black and white damask paper.  I decided on just a little pop of red for my plus one.  I cut the medallions and the lacy border from some of my SVGcuts files along with a card base from my stash.

Enjoy and I hope you come join us for the Hiding in my Craft Room Challenge!

Happy 2013 Friends!

The holiday's are over.  A new year is here.  I was able to spend a little time with my family, get some things organized and relax and get healthy again.  I feel renewed, refreshed and ready to take on 2013.

I wanted to take just a moment to wish you and your family a wonderful, healthy and prosperous 2013. This blog has been such a joy and inspiration for me because of all of my fun, positive, encouraging  bloggy friends.

A couple of thoughts for today (Have I mentioned how much I LOVE Pinterest!?):
