Oh Gingerbread!

I have a little obsession with gingerbread houses. It started when I was young with an awesome dollhouse that my grandparents built for us.  It was wired and had wall to wall carpet, working doors, it was amazing.
Honestly, as an adult I might still have dollhouses around to decorate and make stuff for, but they take up a lot of room, even if they are supposed to be "small" they aren't. LOL.  Anyhow, I have a thing for architecture and houses and well you get the picture.

Then at some point I decided that gingerbread was the way to have the best of both worlds.  They are cute, smell great, and they go away after awhile.

After Christmas last year in the 70% off bin was a wayward gingerbread house cutter set from Wilton.  I have been wanting to have a gingerbread house decorating party, and this seemed like an easy way to go about it... We finally opened the package last weekend, and my daughter went to work decorating the first house of the season....

I think she did a really great job! :)
Houses need people too, here is what she came up with:

I like Wilton's Grandmas Gingerbread Recipe.  Its easy to make and work with, even after refrigeration.  It makes yummy cookies and sturdy houses.  How can you go wrong? :)

That's it for today... The holiday's are hitting home with lots of activities this weekend! How did we suddenly get to December???

Turkey Day Craft

Okay, So i haven't been crafting much lately.  But I did manage to get these cute little table place cards done for our Turkey day celebration.

Everything is from my Peachy Keen Stamps stamp of the month set!  ( Well the little prayer is from an additional kit that goes with the SOTM).

Anyhow, I also was able to use the SVG kits that come free to SOTM members to cut them all too!
Making this a super fast and easy project.  I colored and finished the one, but then decided to bring them unfinished to my mom's for the big day.  Why not let the kids help out with the coloring and assembly?

I cut and stamped it all.  Packed it up and away we went!

Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.  It really is the best holiday.  No gifts, no fuss.  Just a lovely meal (that's already planned out) and time with those you love.  Time is the best gift of all!

I originally had plans to do something bigger, fancier  more... But the plague hit the house, and none of that came to be.  Maybe next year? :)

You'll be thrilled to know that all of the birds are decked out in their winter garb.  I made hats here and there in between a huge bake-a-thon followed by a huge cook-a-thon.  I don't know exactly what got into me this weekend, but it was nice visiting my kitchen.  I haven't been spending much time there to create the past several months and as it turns out I missed it!  I love to cook.  Cooking for those I love brings me joy.  We also make better, healthier choices overall when I spend time in the kitchen.  Expect some recipes rather than crafts in the coming weeks as I re discover the joy of cooking.

Oh! I finally "needed" to use the panorama feature on my new iPhone.  FUN!  It's amazing the technology we carry in our pockets (or bra in my case) these days.

Here is my son, he is just delighted with the "perfect" creations for his friends.  Perhaps I will start tracking for you all the fun and crazy places the birds go with us.

What I do when I am not posting...

See those little faces?  Peeking from behind the sewing machine?
I will bet you couldn't even begin to guess WHY these little birds are staring at me...

This is my blue print. My to-do list.  Because you see I am super woman.
Well at least in my son's eyes.  He needs hats for his birds.  He has quite the collection.  Each of these birds is well loved and has traveled many miles.  Back and forth to grandma's the grocery store, school.  You name it, they've probably come along with us.

So each of these little birds NEEDS a winter hats, for the upcoming holiday festivities   So far I have gotten off easy.  He has dressed them for Halloween and Thanksgiving with construction paper.  I am kicking myself for not getting pictures, but, here is a couple of the thanksgiving outfits.

Kind of cute, right?  Well everyone in the family is an artist, but that is another story for another post... If I haven't lost you yet there's more...

Anyhow, another important thing you should know, is that I don;t sew.  The sewing machine? A gift from my grandmother.  We've had it for about 2 years.  I learned how to thread it last year... I can do the bobbin thingy too.  It's no longer quite as big an ordeal as it was in the beginning...  Anyhow, we have a felt bucket.  Every color of felt you can imagine.  Today, we started making hats for the little birds. Sigh.

Considering I have no clue what I am doing and I don't sew.  Not too shabby, huh?
Well, now you know what I do with all the time I haven't been making crafts and posts.  Well that and working.  maybe some cooking. or cleaning. or thinking about crafts. but not actually doing them.

Have a fabulous day!  Soon I will tell you about today's kitchen adventure too.
Biscotti, baguettes, gingerbread.  Delicious day.

These are a few of my favorite things!

Santa says that Mom needs a little love too.  Black Friday isn't just for TV's and mall discounts...  None of the following has been sponsored in any way, they are totally my own personal opinion.  These are all in fact just a few of my favorite things that happen to have some great sales.  But some are today or this weekend only!  Be sure you get something good under the tree this year! :)

40% off store wide (with a few exceptions, like the machines are just specially priced)
Stock up on mats and blades.  Vinyl, pens and all the other fun toys too!  The best deal though?
Silhouette Cameo is only $229.00, It's the lowest price I have even seen and I coveted ths beauty for a long while before purchasing.  Totally worth it!!!  You will probably want to buy the Design edition of the software to upgrade the one that comes with it, also a worthwhile purchase. You have to use the code: BLACK, good through Sunday.
Silhouette CAMEO®

Crciut Expression 2 only $199.  As much as I love my Silhouette, and I am able to deisgn what I want, or have more intricate cuts, I also have a place in my life for my Cricut.  Yes, you have to purchase cartridges, but honestly, they have become fairly inexpensive, you can find them everywhere cheap.  Mostly, I love that the cartridges have things worked out for you.  You can take the images and pop out a project quickly.  The only guess work is which paper to use!  If you are new to die cutting machines, or you don't "think" you're very "crafty" ( I hear this so often... :(  )
The Cricut will help you feel like a crafting genius in no time.
Cricut Expression® 2

Peachy Keen Stamps are for sure one of my faves.  They are so fun, whimsical, adorable!  They make me smile.  I have built up quite the collection... This weekends sale is a good one.  If you haven't tried these stamps yet... It's a good time to give it a go.  They are everything they say they are!
I decided to just put the sale info direct from their page...

HIMCR Glitz & Glam Blog Hop and Challenge!

Hi Friends! Welcome to this weeks Hiding in my Craft Room Challenge & Blog Hop!

This week is a Glitz & Glam themed blog hop!  Again we had some fun digital stamp files to play with.  DT members received all different ones, and we went to town!  These are my favorite digital files yet!  You get a chance to win some too!  See below to find out how.

First here is my project.  When I saw this cutie, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with her!  I had these great "blank" polka dot bags ( can they be blank and polka dot?  Probably not, but work with me, k?) and I knew she would be fabulous adorning one.  I colored her with colored pencils, then "fussy cut" her.  Which means I used tiny tipped scissors and painstakingly cut around each of her edges, so she was without a background or border.  Then I layered some red and white card stock so the pretty girl would stand out.  Lastly, a Happy Birthday medallion, a bow and some glitz.  I so wish I had that adorable dress she is wearing!

Now, if you want to win these digi stamp files by The Scrapbook Stamp Society, there are TWO ways or double your chances to win!  You can win 3 of the 5 images (you pick) featured by the design team.

1, Enter the Glitz & Glam Challenge at Hiding in my Craft Room.
2.  Follow the design team blog hop.  Comment on each blog, then go back to the Glitz & Glam Challenge page and comment that you're done hopping and commented.

That's nothing to blog about...

Hi Friends!  I don't know if you've noticed, but it's been real quiet here at My Watermelon Moon.  It was just one of those weeks...  I started a new job Monday.  I still have a business that I have been working the past 5 years I am phasing out in addition to FT work.  There has been so much to do and no time to craft!  Which by the way makes me REALLY cranky.  The buzz of my Cricut and Silhouette is relaxing to me.  It makes me happy.  It's my "me" time.  Me time also means blog time and projects for blog time.  Sometimes regular life happens instead.  It happens to all of us, right?

Today, I just just a teeny tiny bit of me time.  I made this lovely little sunflower.  It's the first piece done for my Thanksgiving wreath.  With any luck, it will be done in time for Thanksgiving!

Last Sunday night, I started this advent calendar.  It was so lovely in my head.  But having never made one before, and not really knowing the pitfalls of making such a project, when not following the kit the way it was supposed to be...

I realized AFTER that stamping the numbers might be the way to go.  So I stamped.  Now all of the doors won't stay shut!  Argh!  The silver lining?  I know how long it takes, I know what I need t have worked out first and I know this design idea needs some work.  If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning, or something like that.

After the failed advent calendar and lack of time in my craft room, I was in some seriouls need of some mojo lighter fluid.  Well, the next best thing anyhow!  Friday night I took my little family out to gaze at freshly stocked shelves of Christmas decor.  I love Christmas decorations, and I knew I would find inspiration just window shopping.  All in all, we did well with not buying much.  We have this fabulous store here in So. Cal. that is decorated for Christmas all year around!  It's beautiful and a fun ,magical place to go!  Here were a few of my favorite trees they have up now:

I LOVE traditional red and green Christmas. I also LOVE the "new" pink and light green thing that has been gaining popularity.  Both are fabulous and I plan to merry (lol) the two in my home!

Lastly, If any of you in blog land can help me... Every time I use the textured linen paper on my Silhouette OR Cricut, It has spots that tear and don't cut.  Even with a new mat and blade.  WHAT ARE THE RIGHT SETTINGS?  I know that these machines can cut this stuff.  They can cut anything   It's the slightly softer, more fibrous paper than the light card stock   I just get annoyed every time  and I have a bunch of it in "perfect" fall colors I really want to use.

If you are still with me, both the Advent calendar kit and the sunflower are from my very favorite  You really should go check them out! The kits are AMAZING.

So now you know what I have been up to.  How about you?

Let your voice be heard!

No new projects here today, I will be finishing some up tonight while watching the election results.  I am so ready to have commercials be for junk our kids don't need instead of the junk we've been listening to for weeks!

Please, be sure to take time to go out and vote today.  You have an opinion and your voice should be heard!

HIMCR-Challenge Saturday

It's time for another Hiding in my Craft Room Challenge!

This week is favorite colors, you pick your 3 faves!  The design team this week was given some lovely digital files to work with again.  As a matter of fact, you can win all 5 of the files!  Just head over to HIMCR.

Here is my file and my colors:

I have a confession.  I don't HAVE a favorite color.  I love them ALL.  My favorites of the day or hour as it may be can depend heavily on my mood. So when websites ask me to fill out my favorite color for a "safety" question, we have a problem. LOL.

Anywhoo, I gravitate toward neutrals for decorating.  I decided to go with that family for this week's challenge.  The ovals were cut on my Cricut with the Art Philosophy cartridge.  I cut the sentiment shape by hand and used a corner rounder.  Because my coloring skills with the markers last week were enough to embarrass a kindergartner, I used colored pencils this week.  Big improvement!  I hope you like it and go over and checkout the other designs and enter the challenge at Hiding in my Craft Room!

Happy Friday! I heart rosettes...

I love paper rosettes.  They add so much dimension and wow factor to simple every day projects.  They are especially stunning on banners, in my opinion anyways! :)

For this banner baby girl requested pink and blue.  I have this beautiful hand made paper that I have had in my stash for quite awhile.  It's very fibrous and I cannot use it on my cutting machines, but it is perfect for rosettes!  This particular paper has glitter and stitching in it!  I just love it.  I simply scored and cut the 12 x 12 paper into 12 x 3 strips.  Each rosette used two strips.  So the finished banner is HUGE, each rosette is 6" wide...

I used my Cricut for the letters and other cuts.  The font is from the Storybook cartridge, the banner and the decorative base for it was cut on Art Philosophy, two of my favorite cartridges, and the other cuts, I sadly cannot remember which cartridges.

Here are some closeups of the pretty paper!

I hope you enjoyed today's project and have a fabulous weekend!!!
I am SO excited to get to some holiday projects this weekend! Yay!
